Surah Maryam was revealed in Makkah and contains 89 ayahs. In this Surah, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala vividly describes the reality of the Resurrection and the Day of Judgment and also mentions the names of some prophets and narrates their marvelous miracles. For example, the miraculous birth of Yahya alaihissalam [John the Baptist], stories of ‘Isa alaihissalam and some of his miracles, and many other prophets.
The fact that this Surah is named after Maryam alaihissalam, Prophet ‘Isa’s alaihissalam mother, clearly proves that the Quran is the word of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala as the Blessed Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam never named any surah after his own mother and neither did he mention her anywhere in the Quran. On the other hand, the Quran details the life of Maryam and even names a chapter after her.
Ja‘far radiyallahu anhu recited this same Surah to Najashi (after a group of ýaúaba radiyallahu anhum migrated to Abyssinia from Makkah to avoid persecution) who cried upon hearing it and embraced Islam.
