Shaykh al-Hadith Maulana Mohammad Zakaria (RA) was born on Feb. 3, 1898 to a deeply religious, pious family in Khandla, Muzaffarnagar, district of U.P., India . He acquired knowledge from some of the most distinguished religious personalities including his father Maulana Muhammad Yahyah Khandalwi (RA) and his uncle Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Khandalwi (RA), who was also the founder of Tablighi Jamaat.
At the tender age of 7, he started the memorization of Quran and learning the beginning books from his father. At the age of 13 he joined Mazaahir-ul-Uloom and completed Daura Hadith from his fathe and his Sheikh Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (RA). After the completion of his studies, he began to teach there. His expertise was Hadith which was also his passion. He was a teacher of Siha Sitta in Mazahir-ul-Uloom for 60 years. Even though he received his khalifat from Maulana Khalil Ahmad Saharanpuri (RA), he was greatly influenced by Maulana Abdur Rahim Raipuri (RA), Hakeemul Ummat Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi (RA), Maulana Shah Abdul Qadir Raipuri (RA) and Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi (RA).
He has written more than 100 well known books including Bazlul Majhood, Fazail-e-A.maal which have earned the authenticity even amongst the scholars of the Arab world. He was not only a Muhadith but was also the spiritual leader of thousands of people around the world. Maulana Muhammad Zakaria (RA) left behind an unforgettable legacy with his final breath on May 24, 1982 in Madinah Munawwarah. May Allah SWT be pleased with him.
